Anthony Davis Named SEC Player Of The Week 3/5/12

SEC Men's Hoops Players Of The Week

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, a 6-foot-10, 222-pound freshman forward from Chicago, Ill., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 15.5 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in wins over Georgia and at Florida. Davis averaged a double-double on the week including a 22 point-12 rebound-six block performance in UK’s win at 13th ranked Florida. It was his 14th double-double of the season, second most by a freshman in UK history. He moved to eighth (146) on UK’s career blocks list, fifth on all-time NCAA freshman blocks list.

UK Sweep SEC Player/Freshman of the Week Awards 2/27/12

SEC Men's Hoops Players Of The Week

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, a 6-foot-10, 222-pound freshman forward from Chicago, Ill., was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 20.5 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and two steals in wins at Mississippi State and over Vanderbilt. Davis posted his first double-double of the week in UK’s come-from-behind victory at Mississippi State. His 13th double-double of the year came in Kentucky’s victory over Vanderbilt. Davis scored a career-high 28 points to go with 11 rebounds and five blocked shots. Davis hit 91 pct. of his shots on the day the highest single-game pct. (min. 10 att.) for UK since the 1994-95 season.


Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, a 6-foot-7, 232-pound freshman guard from Somerdale, N.J., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 13 points, nine rebounds and two assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in wins at Mississippi State and over Vanderbilt. Kidd-Gilchrist scored a team-high 18 points while grabbing 10 rebounds in UK’s win at Mississippi State. Kidd-Gilchrist then pulled down eight rebounds in UK’s win over Vanderbilt.

• Averaged 11. 3 points per game in UK’s three wins last week in helping UK win the regular season championship title.
• Scored in double digits in two of the three wins, ranking second on the team in scoring.
• Found her way to the free-throw line a team-high 14 in three games, hitting 12 for a 85.7 percent clip.
• Was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in the win over Mississippi State.
• Passed out a team-high tying three assists vs. RV/No. 24 Vanderbilt.
• Scored her 21st double-figure scoring game vs. South Carolina, the fourth most in UK freshman history.
• Swiped a steal in all three games.

UK's Marquis Teague named SEC Freshman of the Week



Kentucky’s Marquis Teague, a 6-foot-2, 189-pound freshman guard from Indianapolis, Ind., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 12.5 points, 9.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in wins over 8th-ranked Florida and at Vanderbilt. Teague tallied his first-career double-double in the win against Florida scoring 12 points and dishing out a game-high 10 assists. He followed that performance with a 13-point, eight assist, one turnover game on the road at Vanderbilt. Over the last eight games, Teague has dished out 46 assists against just 17 turnovers.

Anthony Davis Named SEC Player Of The Week

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, a 6-foot-10, 222-pound freshman forward from Chicago, Ill., was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 20 points, eight rebounds, 7.5 blocks and two assists in wins over Tennessee and at South Carolina. Davis posted 15 blocks on the week, including eight blocks against South Carolina. He pushed his season total to 116, breaking Shaquille O’Neal’s SEC freshman record for blocks in a season. He how ranks ninth on the league’s single-season blocks list. Davis leads the nation in blocks and has more blocks than eight other schools in the league. He missed only two shots on the week, shooting 88.2 percent from the field.

UK Hoops Bria Goss named SEC Freshman of the Week

• Scored a career-high 22 points, including a career-high tying three 3-pointers, in UK’s 69-64 road win at No. 15/14 Georgia. It marked UK’s first win in Stegeman Coliseum since 2008.
• Scored 17 of her team- and career-high 22 points at Georgia in the second half, rallying the Wildcats from a 10-point second half deficit.
• While her shot wasn’t falling vs. Florida, Goss relied on her defense to help push UK to victory, taking a team-high three charges and grabbing a team- and career-high nine rebounds.
• Hit both of her free throws with 22.8 seconds left to help preserve UK’s victory over Florida.
• Averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game in UK’s two wins which helped the Cats tie the best start in program history through the first 20 games.

Anthony Davis named SEC Freshman of the Week 1/16/12

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, a 6-foot-10, 222-pound freshman forward from Chicago, Ill., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 16 points, seven rebounds, four blocks, 2.5 steals and two assists in wins at Auburn and at Tennessee. Davis tallied eight blocks on the week moving him to within one block of the UK single-season record after only 18 games. He helped lead the Cats in a come-from-behind wins on the road, scoring game-high 14 points at Auburn and a game-high 18 points at Tennessee. He has scored in double-figures in seven-straight games and eight of the last nine.

• Averaged 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per game.
• Scored a career-high 34 points in UK’s win of No. 6/7 Tennessee.
• Also grabbed nine rebounds, one shy of tying a career high, to go along with two assists, two blocks and two steals.
• Hit the game-winning shot vs. Tennessee with 4.2 seconds left to give UK its first 4-0 start in conference play in program history and its third win over a top-10 ranked opponent this season, the first time the program has done that since 1982-83.
• Tied a career high with three blocks at No. 24/RV South Carolina, while also getting three steals.
